Program Description

Event Details

Role-playing games are just group storytelling using imagination, but with rules & dice to determine your luck & success in the moment, and a person acting as referee for rules decisions. Dungeons & Dragons is the first, having turned 50 years old in 2024, but is by no means the only one. We're trying some others too.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS is firmly in the Fantasy genre; a world of magic spells, swordplay and archery, and classic monsters of mythology that usually dwell in underground dungeons protecting their treasure hoards.
Similar reference: Lord of the Rings, Skyrim, World of Warcraft, The Witcher

LANCER is firmly in the Sci-Fi genre; players pilot giant battle mechs on alien planets against other mechs or even alien lifeforms, using bullets, lasers & batteries of rockets, improving their bot with new weapons & parts as they earn them.
Similar reference: Voltron, Pacific Rim, Power Rangers, Neon Genesis Evangelion

MONSTER OF THE WEEK is a modern horror/thriller with a monster hunt at the heart; players are part of a group investigating a mystery and trying to identify the creature responsible, figuring out how to capture or stop it, all played as though part of an episodic tv show.
Similar reference: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X Files, Supernatural, Scooby Doo

CYPHER SYSTEM is a genre-neutral rule set for playing in any of several types of games, depending on the preference of the game master running it; Fantasy & Sci-Fi are possible, as well as Horror, but so are Superhero, Post-Apocalyptic, Historical, and others (World War 2 era, Prohibition era, Western, etc.)
Possible references: Marvel/DC heroes, Mad Max, Planet of the Apes, Saving Private Ryan, Untouchables, Red Dead Redemption, etc.

Character sheets, pencils & dice can be provided if needed. Gameplay is varied and tailored somewhat to players whatever their age."
