About Sheriff Tony Thompson: Sheriff Tony Thompson began his distinguished career with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office in 1994, having served in various capacities including Jail, Special Services, and Patrol Divisions. Elected as Sheriff in 2008, he has been re-elected consistently due to his dedicated service and significant contributions to the community. Sheriff Thompson is a retired military police officer from the Iowa Army National Guard, with over 21 years of service. His commitment to mental health advocacy is evident through his roles on various state committees and boards, and his influence in shaping mental health legislation in Iowa.
