Event Details

Learn about the life and legacy of Iowa writer Ruth Suckow through this Traveling Exhibit celebrating the life and work of Iowa novelist and short story writer Ruth Suckow who lived from 1892 to 1960.

The literary critic and magazine editor, H.L. Mencken, said that Iowan Ruth Suckow (1892-1960) "was unquestionably...the most remarkable woman writing short stories in the Republic."  And he published everything she ever sent him.  The daughter of a Congregational minister, Suckow lived in many towns - large and small- thoughout Iowa as she moved with her father from one church to another.  In her work, 43 short stories, 9 novels, and many essays, Suckow preserved and probed Iowa life from the 1880s through World War II.  Michael and Hedy will give a talk about their personal attraction to Suckow's legacy and provide an introduction to the traveling exhibit at the Bettendorf Public Library.

The exhibit will be on display at the library for the month of February.
