Event Details

Clarinda, IA - Lied Public Library is excited to announce its upcoming National Seed Swap/Giveaway event on Saturday, January 25 from 10 am to 1 pm. Nine Square Feet, is an Iowa 501(c) 3 community organization based in West Des Moines whose mission is to share seeds, plants and produce in the Des Moines metro area. For many years, Nine Square Feet sponsored a National Seed Swap Day. In 2023 and 2024, they expanded that fun, annual community event to libraries, big and small, all across the state.  They went EVEN BIGGER this year and invited up to 50 libraries to participate. We are happy to announce CLARINDA was selected as a partner! Nine Square Feet will provide each of their library partners with carefully-curated 30 varieties of "essential" seed packets, along with some special and fun ones too to celebrate National Seed Swap Day!

In conjunction with the seed swap, the Clarinda Lied Public Library will host a houseplant or cutting swap.

The Seed/Plant Swap is a free community event where participants can bring plants, cuttings, seedlings, or seeds to swap with others. The library invites garden enthusiasts of all skill levels to come together and share their love of plants while exchanging tips and tricks.

“This event is a great opportunity for the community to come together and share their passion for gardening,” said Library Director, Andrew Hoppmann. “We are excited to offer this event as a way for individuals to connect with others who share their interest in seeds/plants and to exchange seeds/ plants that they may no longer need.”

The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring any plants, cuttings, seedlings, or seeds they wish to swap.
