Program Description

Event Details

In 1883 Buffalo Bill created his touring Wild West Show following his "Old Glory Blow Out" performance in North Platte, Nebraska. This type of Wild West performance became a part of American Western heritage some 150 years ago. When Vincente Oropeza introduced trick roping to Buffalo Bill's shoe he gave the American cowboy a different perspective of the art of roping. Joan tells the history of Buffalo Bill Show and it's performers and demonstrates trick roping of that era.

In 1979 Joan won the title of Women's World Champion Trick Roper at the Will Rogers Trick Roping Contest. In 1989 Joan was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Forth Worth, Texas. in 2006 and 2007 she competed for first place honors at the Will Rogers Expo in Claremore, Oklahoma. She also holds a B.A. degree in Physical Education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and continues to perform for western theme events, schools, museums, stage shows and Wild West Show re-enactments.
