Discover the Adventure of a Lifetime at Lied Public Library: "One4Water: A 1900-Mile Canoe Journey to the Gulf of Mexico"

Clarinda, Iowa - Have you ever dreamed of embarking on an extraordinary adventure, paddling through serene lakes, and winding rivers, and witnessing breathtaking landscapes? Join us for an inspiring evening with a special guest, Hank Kohler, as he shares his captivating journey on Monday, December 4th, 2023, at 6:00 PM. The event will take place in person at the Lied Public Library in Clarinda, Iowa, and will also be accessible via Zoom.

Hank Kohler, a native of Iowa, will take you on a virtual voyage through his incredible 1900-mile canoe trip from a small lake near his Minnesota cabin to the majestic Gulf of Mexico in 2021. What makes this adventure truly unique is that it began at the same small lake where he departed on a 1400-mile adventure to Hudson Bay back in 1979, where he was fortunate enough to witness a polar bear passing by. The first journey was a quest for adventure and challenge, while the second, forty-two years later, had a more profound purpose.

Named "One4Water," this remarkable journey was not just about personal exploration but also a mission to make a positive impact. Hank Kohler partnered with The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque, and through generous donations, he raised tens of thousands of dollars for their youth conservation programs. Most of these donations came from a dedicated Facebook community of over 1500 followers who were captivated by his daily updates and encouraged him to write the "One4Water" book.

During the free event, Hank Kohler  will narrate his incredible journey, its mission, and the background that led to this remarkable expedition. He will invite the audience to immerse themselves in the experience by pretending to be in the canoe on one of the more interesting days. After his storytelling, there will be a Q&A session where attendees can ask questions and get their books signed.

Hank Kohler was born in 1952 and grew up on a family farm near Remsen, Iowa. He holds a degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa but spent his working years as a restaurant owner. He, along with his wife Anne, has three children and three grandchildren and resides in Ames.

To enhance the visual experience, Hank Kohler will incorporate photos of his journey, which will scroll behind him on a flash drive during the presentation. This will undoubtedly add an exciting visual dimension to the storytelling.
