Event Details
The Lied Public Library is thrilled to announce a special cultural program featuring Takeshi Hayasaka on Saturday, April 20th, at 1 pm. The event, held in partnership with CultureALL and made possible through a generous grant from the Clarinda Foundation, will delve into the art of Furoshiki, a traditional Japanese eco-friendly tool.
Born and raised in Miyagi prefecture, Japan, Takeshi Hayasaka brings a wealth of cultural knowledge and experiences to the community of Clarinda. Since his arrival in Des Moines in 2022 as a cultural coordinator for the Japan Outreach Initiative program, Takeshi has been dedicated to sharing the beauty of Japanese culture with local communities. With a passion for travel that has taken him to 12 countries across the globe, Takeshi believes that his diverse experiences have shaped his unique perspective and enriched his understanding of cultural exchange.
During the workshop, Takeshi will introduce participants to Furoshiki, a versatile piece of cloth deeply rooted in Japanese tradition. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore various uses of Furoshiki, from gift wrapping to creating stylish shopping bags and even interior decor. By engaging with the fabric firsthand, participants will discover the significance of presentation and the art of keeping everything tidy, reflecting the essence of Japanese culture.
The workshop is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Lied Public Library at www.clarindapubliclibrary.org or 712-542-2416
