Program Description

Event Details

Due to unexpected circumstances we had to cancel our program Desert Sands of Jordan with Mohammad Ghnem. We hope to have him in the near future. Join us for this program with Beverly Ellis on the Holocaust.

Join us for a compelling workshop featuring Ambassador Beverly Nagel Ellis, a distinguished educator with over 40 years of experience. In this session, Ambassador Ellis will share the poignant story of her parents, who survived the harsh realities of a forced labor camp in Russia during World War II. Her father, a skilled cobbler, worked for Russian soldiers, while her mother managed to save precious Jewish artifacts from their home in Poland.

Through a captivating blend of stories, photos, and artifacts, Ambassador Ellis will guide participants on a journey through the hardships her family faced, their liberation, and the challenges of rebuilding their lives without a home or country. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the Holocaust and its profound impact.

In addition to the historical narrative, participants will delve into the art of Haiku, a poetic form known for its simplicity and directness in expressing intense ideas or emotions. Ambassador Ellis will lead a hands-on lesson in crafting Haiku, encouraging participants to draw inspiration from their workshop experience. Attendees will have the chance to create their own Haiku and accompanying illustrations, adding a creative and reflective dimension to the workshop.

Don't miss this chance to explore history, resilience, and artistic expression in a single workshop. Join us on January 6th at 1:00 PM at the Lied Public Library in Clarinda. This event is made possible through the generous funding provided by the Clarinda Foundation.
