Program Description
Event Details
Retired Iowa State Trooper Bob Hurley will discuss his book, "10-31 Crime in Progress," a memoir about his lifetime of experiences. In his book, he introduces audiences to many interesting people, dangerous situations, and some funny things that happened along the way.
Proud to serve and protect, Hurley talks about how he and his wife Kristie, supported each other and found the balance between two demanding careers and the responsibilities and joys of family life (with three children and three grandchildren). Hurley wanted to positively impact people's lives and especially enjoyed working with school students in the DARE - Drug Abuse Resistance Education - program and helping with the RAGBRAI bike rides across Iowa.
Robert Hurley was an Iowa State Trooper from 1979 to his retirement in 2005. Born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, and a graduate of Wahlert High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force and worked as a security police officer in Japan for several years. After serving, he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at the University of Nebraska and worked on the police force in La Vista, Nebraska, later joining the Iowa State Patrol.
Items from his career will be on display, and books will be available for purchase.
